Greetings friends in service. Our committee continues to meet two or three times a month. We are still looking for the best way to distribute the over 2000 Spanish language books throughout the Area. Right now, we like a vision of this where half of the Spanish books would go to Linguistic Districts 17 and 19 and the other half to the Geographic Districts. And in the spirit of unity, we would give a small proportional number of English books to the Linguistic Districts for them to distribute out into the world.
A couple of things make this option look good to us. One, after visiting District 4 and explaining to them the power of thinking of the books as a resource where we can get the AA message out to the world, they volunteered to help us get Spanish books to District 19. This is a huge benefit because we don’t usually see D19 in our Assemblies, but still know they are a part of our Area. That kind of unifying First and Fifth Tradition generosity of spirit is the kind of gift these books seem to be handing out. We also see that by giving over 1000 of the Spanish books to the Geographic Districts, a burden would be taken off District 17 for driving all over the state to distribute so many books. And as some of us have dis-covered in district meetings, many of the Geographic Districts have a need for Spanish literature even in their English speaking meetings.
Of course, just because we think an idea is a good one doesn’t mean the Area will. What we can tell you is we continue to do the work of vision and tradition testing on all ideas which have come our way. When we have substantial unanimity in our committee on the best way to go, we will be presenting it to you…may-be this March Assembly, maybe in September. That’s up to God. Mean-while every one of us is grateful for the assignment to bring to you our informed group conscience when it gives us a clear direction.
I will be summarizing our work as usual at our AHCAB Assembly Committee meeting in the third slot of Saturday morning during the March Assembly.
Hope to see you there! In love of service, Kristina F
