Alt. Chair Report – September 2024

Hello Area 46,

It was wonderful seeing everyone at the August Assembly in Albuquerque. Special thanks to District 18, and all who volunteered to host and produce this event!

There was a lot of productive discussion this weekend concerning the affordability of hosting assemblies, and the financial burden our districts currently absorb. It was also noted that the International Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous is scheduled just outside the 30-day window where “competing” events are discouraged. Please know that your Chair and Alt. Chair take this to heart. The Area 46 Committee will be utilizing time at our Assembly Planning Meetings to discuss potential solutions, and ask for patience and grace as we begin to wade through all ideas and suggestions. As a gentle reminder, we do not conduct business as our Assembly Planning meetings, so no decisions will be made independently of the full assembly.

With that in mind, Area 46 is seeking bids from Districts to host the State Convention, as well as the December assembly in 2025. If your District is interested or would like more information, please contact Christoph or me as soon as possible.

I am continuing to liaise with all Central Offices/Intergroups and AA entities performing similar functions within Area 46. I appreciate the opportunity to participate and learn more through these connections.

We have two events coming up that are worth checking out. The first is the Southwest Regional AA Service Assembly (SWRAASA), which will be held in Dallas, TX, October 11-13, 2024. This event brings together trusted servants in the southwest region to learn and share about the General Service Structure at the Group, District, Area, and Conference levels. More information can be found at www.swraasa2024.org. The second is the New Mexico Conference of Young People in AA (NMCYPAA), which will be held in Hobbs, NM, October 11-13, 2024. This event brings together the young and young at heart to celebrate sobriety. More information can be found at www.nmcypaa.org.

Our next Assembly Planning meeting will be on Saturday, October 19th, 11:00 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal in Albuquerque. Further details can be found on the dev.aa-nia.org event calendar. This will be a hybrid meeting. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Christoph or me if you have any questions or concerns.

You can reach me at altchair@dev.aa-nia.org if you or your committee need any support.

In Love & Service,

Laura S.
