Archives Committee Report
November 2022
Greetings Area 46! Hope all is well, and you are all in good spirts. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve AA in this capacity and want to thank all of you for your service.
Michelle T., Archivist and I attended the National Archives Workshop held September 22nd– 25th in Little Rock, Arkansas. The workshop was amazing and inspiring. We learned so much about how important Archives are for the future of Alcoholics Anonymous. The question that arose was DOES HISTORY CARRY THE MESSAGE?? And the answer is YES! The Archives Workbook states, “The main purpose of the Archives consistent with AA’s primary purpose, is to keep the record straight so that myth does not predominate over fact as to the history of the fellowship” (page 42).
Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to remind Area Committee Chairs, DCMs and District Chairs send your meeting minutes, sign in sheets and any workshops or activity fliers for events that have taken place or will take place in your districts to archiveschair@dev.aa-nia.org. Please help us to preserve our history. Michelle and I are looking forward to sharing the wealth of information we obtained at the workshop with the committee and with the Assembly.
The Archives committee will be having a zoom meeting on Saturday, November 5th to discuss the current Archives space at Central Office and looking for a new space for the Area 46 Archives collection. We are inviting DCMs to join in to discuss and explore how we can get districts involved in this process. We will keep the Area updated on our progress.
