The 74th General Service Conference is upon us! I’d like to wish our Delegate, Kerri, Godspeed and a safe journey to New York. May you be granted honesty, tolerance, and a clear path to the truth!
I have perused the agenda for the conference this year and have pulled out few to offer for discussion at my home group conscience this Sunday. I was particularly interested in the agenda item regarding the review of the Ad Hoc Committee report on participation of online groups. According to the report, what was once in my experience a polarizing issue, the question of participation in the service structure by online groups seems to have found it’s way in our fellowship. Unity prevails once again!
On perhaps a darker side, another agenda item is addressing the value and future of The Grapevine and La Viña magazine. Like all print media these days, our “meeting in print” is struggling with relevance and financial security. The question of self support is at issue here as the Grapevine is autonomous from GSO, does not accept contributions, and is only supported though sales and subscriptions of their products and services. That said, have you downloaded the new Grapevine app? How about checking out Grapevine on YouTube or Instagram? Or take the time to listen to a Grapevine podcast. There are lots of ways to breathe some new life into carrying the message.
On a final note, don’t forget to schedule a visit from Kerri some time this year to hear her report on the conference.
In Service,
Christoph
