In February my heart goes out to Service! In truth, I love all three legacies of AA; recovery, unity, and service. But there’s nothing quite like the boost I get to my sobriety and serenity from service.
Alt Chair Laura and I have been getting our new rotation of Committee Chairs up to speed so that they may begin doing the 12th Step Work they are responsible for. Our Orientation Meeting for new Trusted Servants and DCMs happened in January and it was a valuable opportunity to understand the nuts and bolts of how Area 46 works and runs.
Since November, I have been participating in a monthly online meeting with all the Area chairs from the US and Canada. Every month, we address a different service topic and the chairs share their experience. It is remarkable how different every Area is in procedures and practices. Some Areas have one assembly a year. Some Areas are made up of Districts which have Sub-Districts. Some have 1000 people attend assembly. Some chairs use a gavel when running the meeting, others have a cow bell. It has certainly allowed my AA world to grow but also allowed my to appreciate our own Area 46 a little more. I was honored to chair the January meeting and shared on the topic “How does your Area transition from one panel to the next?” I will continue to attend these meetings and maybe bring some ideas or insights back home. Cow bell anyone?
In Service,
Christoph
