Hi Area 46,
I’m Lindsay and I’m an alcoholic. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your Area 46 Young People in Service Committee Chair.
In our committee meeting at the September 2021 Area Assembly we talked about this month’s special section in the Grapevine called “Young & Sober!” featuring stories of experience, strength and hope by AA members who came into AA and got sober at an early age. It also features stories of hope by members during the current COVID-19 crisis. And in other Grapevine news that may be of interest to young AAs, there are now Instagram accounts run by Grapevine and La Viña which can be respectively found under the Instagram handles @alcoholicsanonymous_gv and @alcoholicosanonimos_lv.
We debriefed on the recent Traditions Workshop that our committee put on as a virtual Workshop this past month in lieu of the annual 3 Legacies Workshop. It was mentioned during our committee meeting that it would be great to have more young people oriented workshops in the future that are virtual and can connect young people in AA throughout the state.
We had discussion about the young people’s meetings throughout New Mexico that are currently online or in a hybrid format, and we plan to compile a list of those meetings that are currently online so that our district young people chairs can help get newcomers plugged into more young people oriented meetings than are currently available in-person in their districts. This updated list of New Mexico young people’s AA meetings will be available on our web page soon and will be distributed to our email list. Anyone who wants to be added to the young people in service committee email list can reach out via email to ypaa@dev.aa-nia.org with their contact info to get these kinds of updates.
We have an announcement from our friends at NMCYPAA, the New Mexico Conference of Young People in AA, which will be hosted by Carlsbad this year, in Queen, just 45 minutes outside of Carlsbad, October 1st through October 3rd. This will be a kid-friendly event with food and meetings all day. The website to register and find more details is nmcypaa.org.
Another topic that we discussed was helping young people’s meetings get started and spreading the word about new or under-attended young people’s meetings in several Districts.
