Greetings,
The Area 46 Young People in Service Committee began our assembly committee meeting by going over the three main functions of our committee, which are to 1) assist young people in finding service opportunities, 2) connect young people with members of AA of all ages, and 3) provide resources, references and contacts to start and/or find young-people oriented meetings.
We then had an interactive discussion about how we can best work towards these purposes in each district. In District 13, Adolf shared about a successful Halloween dance event this October, and about his experience with starting a young-people oriented meeting. In District 3, Kari shared her challenges with starting a young people oriented meeting and Donald shared about a successful pop-up fundraiser event at the Isleta Club’s young people meeting. In District 9, Sean identified a possible place to bring workshops or panels to. There are some upcoming young-people oriented events, such as an ugly sweater party in District 18.
There are many service opportunities for young people right now through the SWACYPAA host committee, which anyone in the state is able to participate in. SWACYPAA is the SouthWest Area Conference of Young People in AA, a regional young-people oriented conference that will be held in Albuquerque in the summer of 2023. Although there is not yet a set date and venue, planning is well underway and preregistration is open. You can reserve your spot by preregistering with Sean in-person, or online at tinyurl.com/swac9. Information about attending the planning meetings is on our Area website events calendar.
Our committee regularly meets on the last Sunday of the month on Zoom at 7pm. Check out our webpage on the service site for more information. Everyone is welcome to join us, especially the young at heart.
In love & service,
Lindsay M. (she/her)
