District 2 Report – Mar 2021

Greetings from District 2 !I would like to share an email I received from one of our GSR’s (with her permission).

Dear Lisa,

Happy Friday. Our group just finished our monthly Group Conscience today. 15 people attended!! Remember from our last District Meeting how I was so disappointed (and other emotions) and was ready to quit being GSR because of the lackluster interest the group had for our Group Conscience?

Well…with all y’alls support at the district meeting, more prayer and my daughter suggesting to me, “Do it for AA, Mom. You love AA,” I decided to be more proactive with my service position of GSR. Here’s the story.

First, I gave my little resentment legs and started attending other meetings. LOL! Lo and behold, at another of our very own zoom meetings here in Santa Fe, their GSR put “GSR Announcements” in the chat at the beginning of each meeting! She included all the needs we got at the last District meeting; the need for a secretary, treasurer, volunteers for attending zoom meetings in treatment centers, corrections, events going on around the district and area, and 7th Tradition info, etc!

Wow! I thought. What a great idea! People can read them throughout the meeting and copy and paste them for future reference!! So, I “chatted” her, and asked her if I could use her idea…and she said “Of Course!”

So, I started putting GSR Announcements into the Zoom Chat each morning in MY home group. And, at the top of my GSR Announcements I included the day and time of our monthly group conscience ~ and a welcome to attend and be part of the solution!! Then I listed all the district needs and events. I finally felt like I was doing service and providing the group with information that is important to them, the district, the area and GSO! I felt useful. Not important. Useful.

And look what happened. 15 people attended AND participated in the Group Conscience!! From 4 people to 15 people!! Wow! The 3 legacies in action! And guess what. Members spoke up at the end and “Thanked me for my service and for keeping them informed.” They all thanked me for my service. I cry as I write this.

Do it for AA, Mom. You love AA.” Service. Useful. Thank you Alcoholics Anonymous. A real spiritual awakening.

In Service

I am inspired everyday by the willingness and dedication of our members in service.
