District 4 Report – April 2021

District 4 is finally feeling the hopeful shift of the New Year!

A note from our Chair:

Hello Area 46 from Southern New Mexico!

I’m finally writing my first DCM report for the El Farolito. It’s amazing what has happened during the last 12 months. As I write this we have just past the one year mark with the pandemic and that causes me to reflect on my experiences as a member of the fellowship. Last March things shut down so suddenly and completely. Within district 4 we made the decision to fund a couple of zoom accounts and make these avail￾able for groups to use for meetings. The initial confusion and passing of accounts while not giving complete control over the accounts allowed for growth and learning how to share and take care of each other and of course some groups decided to fund their own accounts and make their own choices in which technology they used. We have had a few groups try hybrid meetings over the year. The initial attempts fell apart with the different lockdowns and alcoholics being alcoholics. Since January this year we have had at least 4 meetings resume face to face meetings with at least 2 hybrids actively running.

Within my home group we have at least 4 members who have gotten sober through online meetings so we know the message is still getting out there and we have regular visits from former residents of the area and a few people who have stumbled across
our meeting and just kept coming back. It’s great to have regular members from around the country showing up and participating.

District 4 has been putting on some workshops and I was quite pleasantly surprised to see members from multiple districts with￾in the area at the last workshop. In December we hosted a workshop around “Safety in AA” where the organizers covered topics from diversity to issues around the pandemic. Our February workshop was around “How to chair a meeting” and the attendance neared 30 people as I said from all over the state so we THANK YOU for your participation!

The topic for our next workshop has not yet been solidified but it will be held on the last Sunday of April (4/25/2021) at noon. We will update the district and area websites as soon as we have the information so please keep checking back. http://www.nmdistrict4aa.com/district-work￾shops/

I don’t know about everyone else but I can’t wait to get back to face to face meetings and being able to get hugs from my AA Family and attending birthday bashes and celebrating anniversaries with everyone.

Please let us know if there is any￾thing we in district 4 can do to help.

Yours in service, Mike K. DCM D4
