Southwest Region Delegate's Assembly (SWRDA)
Wow! This past weekend I attended my first SWRDA with Eloy (our current delegate) and past Area 46 delegates Bill L., Teresa J., Ralph T. and Ray R. All I can say is WOW!
This was the 49th SWRDA. The purpose of SWRDA is to prepare the delegates in our region for the General Service Conference. Past delegates travel to SWRDA (usually at their own expense) to share their experience, strength and hope with the new delegates and alternate delegates. There were 75 total in attendance. This included 52 past delegates and trustees who poured into us “rookies.” I learned so much! I cannot wait to go back next year.
One of the highlights for me was the mock conference committee workshop and the mock conference committee report back. This mock event simulated a conference committee talking about a particular agenda item and then reporting back to the conference body what was discussed in your committee and any decisions that were made. I was able to act as the chair for my mock committee which means I facilitated the discussion and did the “report back.” All of the past delegates at my table were so helpful in coaching me through the process. I was asked a question from the floor during the report back. This was great practice!

I left SWRDA full of new knowledge, experiences, and gratitude. Thank you Area 46 for sending both your delegate and your alternate delegate to this vital event each year. It truly helps your delegate better represent Area 46 and better serve Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole.
In Gratitude,
Kerri K.
