New Mexico will host the 9th SouthWest Area Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous (SWACYPAA)!
What is SWACYPAA, exactly? It is a weekend-long conference event that has been established as an annual gathering to promote participation, unity, and enthusiasm about recovery among young AAs in the region. All across the Southwest there are young people achieving long-term, lasting recovery from alcoholism, but until the establishment of this conference, there had been no consistent vehicle for newcomers to be introduced to this reality. To fill this void, SWACYPAA has been designed to enable smaller, less active YPAA communities to experience attending, bidding, and hosting a local area conference. Through this experience, we hope to activate, grow, and strengthen our local YPAA community.
How does hosting the 2023 SWACYPAA in New Mexico create service opportunities for YP in Area 46? We will need a host committee to secure a hotel location, handle registrations, monitor a website, design and order swag, plan events leading up to the conference, create a schedule of events, find speakers, and much more! There are big service commitments, medium service commitments, and small service commitments. Even if you don’t have much time on your hands, we can still find some way for you to be of service on the SWACYPAA host committee.
NM YPAA calls for aid for anyone willing to join us on this amazing journey of service and fellowship as we reach out to the young newcomer here in New Mexico and the Southwest region. Host committee elections will be held on Saturday, September 10th 2pm-4pm MST. The elections will be in-person at the Heights Club 8520 Marble Ave in Albuquerque, and on Zoom at meeting ID 826 4445 0141 passcode: swacypaa9.
