Technology Committee Report – May 2022

Technology Committee Report – May 2022

Hello Area 46,

Special thanks to all who attended our Zoom Defense Workshop on April 30th! Panelists shared experience on how to effectively protect online and hybrid meetings from Zoom bombings while remaining open and accessible to AA members. This was followed by a live demonstration of how to quickly address disruptions when they occur, and the remaining time was reserved for Q&A. We recorded the audio of this workshop and it will be available on the Technology service page soon.

I’m continuing to assist with webmail, page update, and Zoom access for all of our DCMs and trusted servants, and doing my best to keep the site current and functional. If you notice any broken links or old information that needs updating, please send me an email along with the specific link or content that needs updating so I can get it corrected quickly.

One of the most common questions I am receiving is where to send contributions for Area 46. This information can be found on the service site home page under Area 46 Quick Links. Scroll down to the middle of the page and click the heart icon next to “Contributions.”

An important note to share with your groups, Districts, and committee members is that you must be logged in to access the service site. Please share these credentials with your treasurers and any interested members:

Service Site: dev.aa-nia.org/service

Username: Area46

Password: unity

As we close the first quarter of the year, this is a friendly reminder to all Area Officers, Committee Chairs, and DCMs to clean out your webmail inboxes. Delete any correspondence that is not relevant or necessary to keep, then empty your trash. You will receive a warning when your mailbox reaches 80% capacity, and if your mailbox quota reaches 100% you will no longer receive emails coming to your dev.aa-nia.org email address.

Lastly, I want to address the connectivity issues we experienced during committee breakouts at the March Pre-Conference Assembly. We are aware, and despite extensive planning, testing, troubleshooting, the use of hot spots and cellular data as backup, the problem persists. IT came out and replaced the router for us at lunchtime, but unfortunately this did not benefit our committees.  I am as frustrated as you are. I do not know the solution at this time, but will continue to diligently seek one. If you participate in assemblies via Zoom, please don’t give up on us! I plan to consult a network professional and am committed to doing all we can to make hybrid assemblies successful, considering a third of our attendees are joining us online. We need help beyond the scope and knowledge of our current volunteers. If you have professional skills in the tech world and have suggestions, please reach out to me directly via technology@dev.aa-nia.org.

The Technology Committee meets on the third Mondays @ 8:00 PM on Zoom.
