Technology Committee Report – September 2022

Hello Area 46!

The Technology Committee is continuing to look into improving the experience of both in-person and virtual attendees at our hybrid assemblies. We purchased new speakers, which have proven to be more reliable in our set-up, and are weighing the pros and cons of holding onto vs. letting go of our old PA system. We do not know what the best course of action is yet, however no decisions to donate or sell old equipment will be made without the Area’s approval. We are also working with the Area Chair to update technical requirements for assembly host venues so we can hopefully have more consistent experiences across the state.

The Technology Committee reviewed Area 39’s request to share elements of our website so they can build a similar site of their own, however Area 39 ultimately proceeded in another direction and no longer needs our assistance. Another Area has submitted a similar request, so we will likely bring a general motion forward in December to approve these requests.

Looking to the future, the committee is also discussing how to make the role of Technology Chair a more manageable commitment for any willing trusted servant. We have polled the delegates in the United States and Canada, and it seems that most Areas are in the same boat – having combined the roles of Website & Hybrid Assembly Production. Several are now considering separating these positions again, or creating subcommittees in an effort to unload some of the responsibility from one person. We, as a committee, are considering how and if this may be necessary for Area 46 as well.

Lastly, I’d like to thank everyone for your support and kind words about the smooth sailing at the August hybrid assembly. I wish I could take full credit, however it is entirely due to the many helping hands of my Tech team, and reliable internet connection. Future assembly Districts, take note! Strong WiFi is the number one priority for a successful hybrid event. Please contact the Technology Committee if you have any concerns about your venue’s ability to support our hybrid assemblies.

In Love & Service,

Laura S.
