Thank you Area 46 for a wonderful and productive assembly this April. This may have been the first AA assembly that shared the space with a monster truck rally, which only added to the charm. Both Districts 8 & 9 worked together in unity, pooling their resources, to produce a fine event. As it is these days perhaps becoming more difficult for single districts to host assemblies, I hope this coordination of effort between two districts can be an example of a successful assembly. Please consider this unity when discussing bids for future assemblies, conventions, and forums.
As your Area Chair I was contacted last month by Via Positiva, a New Mexico based Behavioral Health Consulting Company, that has been selected by the State to create both an SUD Strategic Plan for New Mexico as well as the Mental Health Emergency Response and Preparedness Plan. I spent an hour with one of their representatives discussing the ins and outs of Alcoholics Anonymous and the responsibilities we have as AA members. It was an enlightening conversation particularly when I brought up how our groups successfully responded during the Covid pandemic of 2020.
I’d like to reiterate what our Delegate Kerri shared at the April Assembly regarding the importance of the Group Conscience in Alcoholics Anonymous. I have seen recently more and more solicitation of individual opinion and individual self support contributions. Step Three tells us that it is our own “little plans and designs” that may block us from the truth. Fostering group unity in AA is vital as we see the fellowship evolving and changing. I ask you, when is your next Group Conscince?
In service,
Christoph
